The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is
not protecting the Earth as is needed.  The DEC is failing to act for
the protection of the Earth because this governmental entity is
controlled by corporate influences.  The DEC is given its marching
orders by the Governor’s Office.  The Governor and his immediate staff
are politicians with no real concern for the well  being of the
inhabitants of the Earth.  The Governor and his men and women are only
concerned with maintaining the Governor’s place in government.  As a
result of this mindset, the Governor’s Office tells DEC to take only
those actions that are pleasing to corporations.  Herein is the key to
why DEC fails to protect the Earth.  It is not the intention of the
Governor that DEC would protect the Earth.  It is the intention of the
Governor that DEC would curry favor with corporations.

DEC has a dismal record on environmental protection:  failing to
require major polluters to comply with a straightforward and
reasonable interpretation of the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water
Act; failing to respond in an effective way to resident complaints
concerning exposures to industrial contaminants and damages to health;
and failing to ban shale gas extraction in New York State.  It is time
for the good, strong people to stand up to bad government and say the
things that must be said. “Step down.  You have failed to act in the
interest of the people.  It is time for you to be replaced with good,
strong people who will do the work of protecting the Earth.”

“In the spirit of the Occupy Movement, I will speak out against DEC.
I will call upon DEC to admit that it has failed in its duty to
protect the Earth.  I will demand that DEC relinquish its governmental
powers to the good, strong people who are ready to begin using
governmental power to protect the Earth from any further abuses.
There are many people who would be happy to take over the work of the
DEC.  We would immediately force the corporations to start controlling
their releases of pollutants with the most effective pollution control
technology available.  Those industries that could not control their
pollutant releases to a reasonable degree would be shut down.  ALCOA
would have to reinstall its wet scrubbers.  Hoosier Magnetics would be
shut down.  This would be so good for the Earth and the inhabitants of
the Earth.”-Donald L. Hassig
